Is plug-in solar legal in New York?
Not yet. S 8512 / A 9111 has passed the legislature and is waiting on the governor's signature. It becomes law only when signed, and applies only from its effective date; we will add the cite and the date here the day it does. Until then your utility's rules for small customer generators apply, and most have a simple notification or interconnection form for systems this size. Ask before you plug in. We don't ship kits here yet (below), but the approval pack works here too, its letters leaning on certification and mounting instead of a statute.
Kits in New York
We don't ship kits to New York yet. New York's plug-in bill, if it is signed, requires the whole system to be certified to UL 3700, and no kit on the market has that yet.
General information, not legal advice. US Plugin Solar is a retailer, not a law firm, and reading this doesn't make you our client. New York has no plug-in solar statute we can cite; we last checked on October 1, 2026. Laws, utility rules and local codes change, and your HOA documents, lease or town can add requirements this page can't see. Ask your utility, and a lawyer licensed in New York if your plans depend on it. All 10 statutes side by side →
