Plug-in solar is written into law in 10 states. Each row is read from the enacted text, not a bill tracker: the cap, what the law asks of you, and whether its certification test is one these kits meet. In effect or not is decided by the date, so a row flips the day its law does.

| On the governor's desk | New York have passed bills that are waiting on the governor's signature. District of Columbia has a bill in committee. Each one joins the table the day it takes effect, with the cite. Not to New York: its bill requires whole-system UL 3700 certification, which no kit has yet. | |||||
| Everywhere else | No plug-in statute yet. Your utility's rules for small customer generators apply, and most have a simple notification or interconnection form for systems this size. Ask before you plug in. Free shipping in the US, except NY, ME and VT; the approval pack works here too, its letters leaning on certification and mounting instead of a statute. | |||||
Our kits: Covered means our kits meet the law's safety rules. Unresolved means the law asks for whole-kit UL 3700 certification or something like it, which no kit has yet. Not yet means whole-kit UL 3700 is required.
General information, not legal advice. US Plugin Solar is a retailer, not a law firm, and reading this doesn't make you our client. Each row summarizes the enacted text at its cite as we read it on October 1, 2026. Laws, utility rules and local codes change, and your HOA documents, lease or town can add requirements this page can't see. Read the cite, and ask a lawyer licensed in your state if your plans depend on it.
