Is plug-in solar legal in Virginia?

Not yet, but it is signed. Va. HB 395, 2026 Acts ch. 1052 (SB 250 = ch. 998) takes effect January 1, 2027. Until then your utility's rules for small customer generators apply, so ask before you plug in. From that date, the law allows one plug-in system up to 1,200 W, plugged into an ordinary outlet. Tell your utility. Landlords with more than four units cannot prohibit it.
